Using the Photo Layout Option in My Memories to create an Album
There are many different ways to create digital scrapbook albums using My Memories. You can build your own pages from scratch, use pre-fabricated pages where all the backgrounds, elements and photo layouts are provided or if you are looking to create something quickly you can choose the Photo Layout option.
I used this option for the first time last year when the owners of the store I work at sold the store so they could semi-retire. We had very little notice of the sale and wanted to do something nice for them so we decided to make them a photo album and we needed it done fast.
I had lots of pictures to use - they had owned the store for over 12 years and many of us had worked for them for a very long time. I was also able to take pictures off of Facebook that former staff had shared.
So here is a screen shot with the photo layout tab selected to the left. The album pages are shown along the bottom. The current page you are working on shows up in the middle, and the right hand side has all the different options you can use to add different things to your page as you go. I kept it really simple - I chose two background colours which also happened to match the store colours and decorative awnings that are up all over the store.
Then as I was working on each page I simply chose a layout from the left, double clicked on the picture that I wanted to add, chose it from My Picture file then added the background color. Text was kept to a minimum. It was fun to make - and we just uploaded the finished pages to Costco for printing then slid them in a 12x12 album and we were done.
Here is the finished project:
It was quick, simple and lots of tears were shed when we presented it on their last day!

Using Outside Content with My Memories digital scrapbooking software
I've had the My Memories software for years and when I was looking into all the features that it offered compared to others one of the main reasons that I finally decided on this one was because I was able to use other graphics that I had downloaded off the internet with this software.
There are literally millions & millions of free graphics available online - I have many different designers that I follow on blogs, forums and facebook. And I have downloaded so many free kits that I am sure I will never be able to get through all of them. Not long after I started using the software My Memories did a great series of tutorials with video and pdf instructions to follow. Here is the list of tutorials that they did back in May 2011. And here is a direct link to the pdf for using outside content
I think the second reason that I chose this software was because the ladies at My Memories were so good about sharing all the different features and it's not too often that you will find a company that will actually help you use outside designers with their software - usually they would want you to purchase exclusively from them. There are a few different scrapbook software programs out there that use a similar platform but for me good old fashioned customer service goes a long way.
Check back for a great giveaway next week - October 20-26, 2013 from My Memories - available from my blog. Hint: If you are considering purchasing My Memories software you may want to hold off until next week. The wait will be worth it!!

Nuts About Sketches - Week 286
Finally got some time to play around with another page - can't believe it has been 10 years since our trip to Florida! We had our first digital camera when we went on this trip. Technology has sure advanced since then! Most of the pictures we took at night didn't turn out very well but I've picked 3 that I wanted to include in my album - still brings back good memories even looking at fuzzy pictures!
I used last week's layout from Nuts About Sketches

I used the Frightfully Delightful Add-On kit from Britt-ish Designs and a couple of elements from Suddenly Artistic - kit was also named Frightfully Delightful.
Stay tuned for a great give-away from My Memories - available next week October 20-26, 2013 on my blog, along with some links and tutorials for the My Memories software.
